Efficiently repairing algebraic geometry codes

چکیده
Minimum storage regenerating codes have minimum storage of data in each node and therefore are maximal distance separable (MDS for short) codes. Thus, the number of nodes is upper bounded by 2, where b is the bits of data stored in each node. From both theoretical and practical points of view (see the details in Section 1), it is natural to consider regenerating codes that nearly have minimum storage of data, and meanwhile the number of nodes is unbounded. One of the candidates for such regenerating codes is an algebraic geometry code. In this paper, we generalize the repairing algorithm of Reed-Solomon codes given in [11, STOC2016] to algebraic geometry codes and present an efficient repairing algorithm for arbitrary one-point algebraic geometry codes. By applying our repairing algorithm to the one-point algebraic geometry codes based on the Garcia-Stichtenoth tower, one can repair a code of rate 1 − ε and length n over Fq with bandwidth (n − 1)(1 − τ) log q for any ε = 2 log q with a real τ ∈ (0, 1/2). In addition, storage in each node for an algebraic geometry code is close to the minimum storage. Due to nice structures of Hermitian curves, repairing of Hermitian codes is also investigated. As a result, we are able to show that algebraic geometry codes are regenerating codes with good parameters. An example reveals that Hermitian codes outperform Reed-Solomon codes for certain parameters.

Understanding Algebraic-Geometric Codes
Error-correcting codes derived from curves in an algebraic geometry are called Algebraic-Geometry Codes. The past couple of decades has seen extraordinary developments in the application of the ideas of algebraic geometry to the construction of codes and their decoding algorithms. This was initiated by the work of Goppa as generalizations of Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH), Reed-Solomon (RS), ...
متن کاملSelf-Repairing Codes for distributed storage - A projective geometric construction
Self-Repairing Codes (SRC) are codes designed to suit the need of coding for distributed networked storage: they not only allow stored data to be recovered even in the presence of node failures, they also provide a repair mechanism where as little as two live nodes can be contacted to regenerate the data of a failed node. In this paper, we propose a new instance of self-repairing codes, based o...
متن کاملNew Convolutional Codes Derived from Algebraic Geometry Codes
In this paper, we construct new families of convolutional codes. Such codes are obtained by means of algebraic geometry codes. Additionally, more families of convolutional codes are constructed by means of puncturing, extending, expanding and by the direct product code construction applied to algebraic geometry codes. The parameters of the new convolutional codes are better than or comparable t...
متن کاملOn construction and generalization of algebraic geometry codes
The construction, estimation of minimum distance, and decoding algorithms of algebraic geometry codes can be explained without using advanced mathematics by the notion of weight domains. We clarify the relation between algebraic geometry codes and linear codes from weight domains. Then we review a systematic construction which yields all weight domains.
متن کاملUsing concatenated algebraic geometry codes in channel polarization
Polar codes were introduced by Arikan [1] in 2008 and are the first family of error-correcting codes achieving the symmetric capacity of an arbitrary binary-input discrete memoryless channel under low complexity encoding and using an efficient successive cancellation decoding strategy. Recently, non-binary polar codes have been studied, in which one can use different algebraic geometry codes to...
